Servanthood Sermon Outlines

Title: "The Call to Servanthood: Following Christ's Example"

Introduction:

I. The Servant King: Christ's Model of Servanthood

A. Philippians 2:5-7 - "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness."

B. Mark 10:45 - "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

C. Emphasize the profound example of Christ's humble servanthood and His call for us to follow in His footsteps.

II. The Heart of a Servant

A. Matthew 23:11 - "The greatest among you will be your servant."

B. Galatians 5:13b - "Serve one another humbly in love."

C. Explore the attitude of humility, selflessness, and love that characterizes a true servant's heart.

III. The Joy of Serving Others

A. Acts 20:35 - "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

B. 2 Corinthians 9:7 - "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

C. Share the joy and fulfillment that come from serving others with a willing and joyful heart.

IV. Servanthood in Everyday Life

A. 1 Peter 4:10 - "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."

B. Colossians 3:23-24 - "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

C. Encourage the congregation to see their daily tasks and vocations as opportunities for serving God and others.

V. Serving in Love and Unity

A. Galatians 5:13 - "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love."

B. 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 - "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so, the body is not made up of one part but of many."

C. Highlight the importance of serving in love and unity as members of the body of Christ.

VI. Radical Love and Sacrifice

A. John 13:34-35 - "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another."

B. Ephesians 5:2 - "And walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

C. Challenge the congregation to display radical love and sacrificial service as a testimony of their discipleship in Christ.
