 Title: "True Worship: Drawing Near to God with Reverence and Joy"

Introduction:

I. Understanding Worship

A. John 4:23-24 - "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."

B. Worship is not confined to a physical place but is a heart posture towards God.

II. The Essence of Worship

A. Psalm 95:6-7 - "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care."

B. Worship involves acknowledging God's greatness, sovereignty, and care over our lives.

III. Elements of True Worship

A. Praise and Thanksgiving

1. Psalm 100:4 - "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name."

2. Expressing gratitude and adoration for who God is and what He has done.

B. Prayer and Supplication

1. Philippians 4:6 - "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

2. Seeking God's presence, guidance, and presenting our needs to Him.

C. Reading and Meditating on God's Word

1. Psalm 119:105 - "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

2. Allowing God's Word to shape our minds and hearts in worship.

IV. Worship in Spirit and in Truth

A. John 4:24 - "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."

B. Engaging both our hearts and minds in worship.

C. Sincere worship based on the truth of God's Word.

V. Worship as a Lifestyle

A. Romans 12:1-2 - "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."

B. Worship extends beyond the church gathering into our daily lives.

C. Offering ourselves fully to God in all that we do.

VI. The Power of Corporate Worship

A. Hebrews 10:24-25 - "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

B. Coming together as a community to worship God strengthens and encourages our faith.

Conclusion:

Recap the essence of true worship: a heart posture of reverence, joy, and submission to God.

Encourage the congregation to embrace worship as a lifestyle.

Emphasize the importance of worshiping in spirit and in truth, engaging both heart and mind.
